If i used valve hammer say to make a map or such, would it be able to work using a quake engine?

Wrong , worldcraft happens to be the best at the moment.(Worledcraft is the same as hammer but for older games , its the same program.

there's a special version of worldcraft that u can download a plugin to make it work with quake just fine.

worldcraft 3.3 and quake adapter
